The SEC will NOT win the BCS National Championship Game in the 2011 season.
This is the year that the SEC will not hold the crystal ball, come the end of the 2011 season. Wow, that’s going to be strange not seeing an SEC team win it all. I still think that an SEC team will be playing in the BCS National Championship Game. But they will not be the victors.
This is a bold statement I know but every streak ends, right? And the SEC claiming the BCS Championship, again, for the 2011 season which will be played in January 2012 will not be the SEC. Yes, you’re right an SEC team will be playing in the championship game.
Because there are a lot of BCS rankings in the SEC, and they do have a Conference Championship Game. That always helps, playing an extra game, for the BCS computers and for the voters. So a team from the SEC with 2 or 3 losses can still play for the BCS National Championship Game. Remember LSU?
The USA Today Coaches’ Poll (Top 25 pre season rankings) just came out and 8 of the 12 SEC teams are ranked in the Top 25 this year. #2 Alabama, #4 LSU, #12 South Carolina, #14 Arkansas, #19 Auburn, #20 Mississippi State, #22 Georgia and #23 Florida. The 4 teams from the SEC not ranked in the top 25 are Kentucky, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Even with all of those rankings only one of these teams will represent the SEC in the BCS Championship Bowl Game. It will probably be Alabama or South Carolina? I am picking a team from the Big 12 (-2) even without a Conference Championship Game to win it all.
There are only 5 teams from the (10 team) Big 12 ranked in the pre season Top 25, but 3 of those 5 are in the Top 10. #1 Oklahoma, #8 Oklahoma State, #9 Texas A&M, #21 Missouri and #24 Texas. Oklahoma or Oklahoma State will more than likely represent the Big 12 in the BCS National Championship Game. The other 5 teams from the Big 12 not ranked in the Top 25 are Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Texas Tech.
Oklahoma will need to stay undefeated and be 12 – 0 to keep the #1 spot and earn a title shot, if Oklahoma State is undefeated at the end of the year and beat undefeated Oklahoma they will surely move up to #2, and they will go contest the SEC in the Championship Game.
So there you have it folks, a team from the Big 12 will hold the crystal ball at the end of the season, proudly.
Just for the record: #15 TCU will probably be ranked at the highest around a #3 or #4 spot even if they go undefeated 12 – 0, assuming they get past #7 Boise State. And they will get to play in a BCS Bowl Game, but it won’t be the National Championship Game. The same can be said, about #7 Boise State, if they get past #15 TCU, they will more than likely be undefeated 12 – 0 and play in a BCS Bowl Game other than the National Championship Game. Just because they aren’t in an AQ-division, they are from a non AQ-division. Well don’t you think we need a playoff system? I do.
Note: My team is and will always be UT. The Texas Longhorns have some catching up to do in the Big 12, they are ranked at the #24 spot, but I want them to contest these higher ranked Big 12 teams, and if they beat them or win, I won’t be surprised. Hook’em Horns!
SEC don’t worry, you will have tons of ranking at the end of the year for next year. So the more you stay ranked the more chances you will get to play in a BCS National Championship Games, oh wait, the SEC plays in the Tile Game, every year? We need a playoff system. Go Big 12!
If for some reason a Big 12 team doesn’t make it to the BCS National Championship Game, don’t be surprised if ex-Big 12, #11 Nebraska from the new Pac 12 goes and wins against the SEC in the BCS title game.
Who do you think will win it all? What teams are not ranked that should be ranked in the pre season polls? There are so many questions that need to be answered, can’t wait for some College Football! Post a comment and or article.
